SUMMARY:Free Live Webinar | Connection Cafes: What Are They And Why Are They Important?
DESCRIPTION:About Event\nConnection Cafes are based on the Memory Cafe mode frequently used to promote social support and connection for persons living with dementia. We will discuss why they are important\, who should attend and where they can be held. The target audience for this webinar is care-partners\, family members\, advocates and anyone interested in the\ntopic. \nWebinar: Wednesday\,  January 31\, 2024 \n12:00 pm – 1:00 pm \nClick Here to register for the Zoom link. \nBrought to you by the Georgia Gerontology Society \nAbout Speaker\nAlyss Amster got her experience when\, in 2017\, she joined Amy’s Place\, the first free-standing Memory Cafe in Roswell. Later\, the name of Memory Cafe was changed to Connection Cafe by Alyss to reduce the stigma associated with cognitive decline. In 2021\, Alyss joined the Dementia Spotlight Foundation leadership team by assuming the role of Associate Executive Director. \nShe supports the Foundation by increasing awareness and serving as the director of the DSF Connection Cafe in Roswell. Connection Cafes (Memory Cafes) provide a safe and comfortable space where care partners and those living with dementia can socialize through appropriate activities. Alyss also serves as co-chair of the Speakers Bureau of Adult Children of Aging Parents (ACAP) of Cobb-Cherokee.
