What is Dementia Friends and the Dementia Friends Program?

Dementia Friends is a social action movement aimed at changing how people think, talk, and act about dementia. The organization was first developed by the Alzheimer’s Society in the United Kingdom and has since expanded in the United States and globally.

Dementia Friends uses education and understanding to build a community of dementia advocates or “Dementia Friends.” Dementia Friends are then empowered to transform that understanding into action to build more inclusive, dementia-friendly communities.

Become A Dementia Friend

Becoming a Dementia Friend is a simple and powerful way to make a difference in the lives of those affected by dementia. To become a Dementia Friend, all you need to do is attend or host a short training session.

Led by a Dementia Friends Champion at DSF, this free 1-hour session will teach you:

You don’t need to be a dementia expert or know someone with dementia to become a Dementia Friend. All that you need to do is take what you’ve learned and put it into action. How can you take what you’ve learned and create a more inclusive community?

Get in touch to organize an individual or team session.

Local Dementia-Friendly Communities

We are proud to support dementia friendly initiatives in the metro-Atlanta area.  In 2021, DSF partnered with DeKalb County to celebrate its efforts in becoming Georgia’s first dementia friendly county.

Currently we are also partnering with the following communities on their dementia friendly initiatives: City of Decatur, Cobb County, Fulton County and Rockdale County.  These communities are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive environment for individuals living with dementia and their care partners.

By coming together as Georgians, we can make sure that people living with dementia are understood and included.
