Dennis is my father-in-law whom I had the privilege to assist in his care for the past two years. Although he had dementia it did not stop him from living life.
He was witty, charming, a wonderful father and grandfather. He passed away on March 20th, 2017.
Dementia is a cruel condition and I witnessed it robbing our family of quality moments and memories. It is not easy watching a loved one go through this and it is especially hard on the family that cares for him or her.
There are things we can do to help with cognitive decline like eating proper nutritious foods, managing illness (such as diabetes and heart disease ) and catching the warning signs early, but there is no cure.
Let’s continue to create an awareness so that other families don’t have to deal with this horrible condition.
