About This Event

This educational activity provides the background information needed to increase the nurses’ understanding of dementia, its causes and management, and their important role in providing care including strategies for using effective communication skills and managing behaviors.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe different types of dementia, causes, symptoms, and stages.
  • Describe the impact of environment and routine has on the person living with dementia.
  • Explain how behavior is a form of communication.
  • Identify three strategies you can use to respond to dementia-related behavior to have more success in day-to-day living, and decrease frustration and anxiety for everyone.
